Mon Aug 22, 3:00 – 5:00

We’ve been told that they want to keep this hush hush, but at the same time they want people to show up. Basically the basketball team will play with ANYONE who shows up.

The Hoyas are coming to China in August

We’ve just been notified that the Georgetown men’s basketball team will be coming to China! They will be in Beijing on August 14-18 and Shanghai on August 19-24.

For more information, go to the official Georgetown website.

Here is a copy of the email:

Many of you have been following the men’s basketball team since your first day of freshman year. Did you ever think you could follow the team to China?

This August, the Hoyas will travel to Beijing and Shanghai for their first overseas trip in two decades. You have a unique opportunity to interact with the coaches and players unlike any other time or place in the world.

Join the team and Georgetown leaders to meet with Chinese officials, participate in cultural and community service programs, connect with alumni and-of course-watch the Hoyas in exhibition basketball games against the leading teams in China.

If you are interested in joining us in one or both cities or have questions for our planning team, please email us at: HoyasInChina@georgetown.edu.

You can find a full itinerary and travel details online.

Here are some highlights:

Beijing

August 16: Exhibition Game 1
August 17: Exhibition Game 2; Surprise event with the team
August 18: President’s Reception (with President DeGioia and university leaders)

Shanghai

August 20: Basketball Clinic with the team; President’s Reception (with President DeGioia and university leaders)
August 21: Sunday Mass; Exhibition Game 3
August 22: Exhibition Game 4; Surprise event with the team

Since departure is just 50 days away, please let us know if you are interested in taking part in this historic trip by July 1, so that we can negotiate the best hotel rates for you to stay with Coach Thompson and the team, though you are also welcome to find your own accommodation and join us on specific outings. We estimate that rates will be between $250-$300 USD per night at our selected hotels.

St. Regis, Beijing – 8/15-8/19
The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai – 8/19-8/23

If you are interested in taking part in this visit in either or both cities, please contact us at your earliest convenience at HoyasInChina@georgetown.edu. Once we have all the information on the hotel offerings, we will be in touch with you directly.

We hope to see you in China in August!

Best wishes,

Call for Alumni Interviewers

Every year we ask Georgetown alumni in Shanghai to register as an Alumni Interviewer. This is a really important service given that the number of applicants to Georgetown from China is increasing, and that alumni interviewers are always relocating to other parts of the world.

This year, the need for new interviewers is acute. We were just told that there are over 100 candidates in Shanghai alone, and only 4 alumni interviewers! As one of the few universities to require an interview, please take the opportunity to give back to the school, and influence the new student body.

Signing up with the AAP (Alumni Admissions Program) is quick and easy. However, some alumni have experienced problems before, which is why we are now recommending this process:

1. Go to this webpage and fill in the information:
https://www4.georgetown.edu/uis/keybridge/keyform/form.cfm?FormID=1926

2. Send an email stating you’re interested in being an interviewer:
* AAP: aapnws [at] georgetown [dot] edu

Thanks,

The Georgetown Club of Shanghai Team

Internship Program Website: Hoyas in Greater China

If you were interested in learning more about the Hoyas in Greater China internship program, please check out their new website. On the site you can read testimonials from the eight Georgetown students that participated this year (four were in Shanghai). If you are an employer in Shanghai and interested in getting Georgetown students as interns, please contact Richard Matsui at hoyasingc at gmail dot com. We think this is a great opportunity for both companies and students.
