It is a big accomplishment to get admission into Georgetown University, and many of the students will have several outstanding choices to consider this spring. We hope that gatherings like this will demonstrate the strength of the Georgetown community, and the warmth of the welcome they will receive in Washington DC in the fall.

Time: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Last year, the Georgetown club helped to raise money for heart surgery for children. Dear Caitlin,

I thought that you and your friends would like to know that the profit from your Georgetown Heart Bear order was used in August to co-sponsor heart surgery on a young boy named Ke Xuan Liang from Anhui Province.

With grateful thanks for your support

4. GU Hoya Connects: Informal Mentorship Program for Hoyas in Shanghai

We’re looking into starting an informal mentorship program for new Hoyas arriving in Shanghai. We often think about our own experiences coming to China and how much having an experienced person to make some introductions would go a long way. Right now we’re just asking who might be interested in participating as an informal mentor.

In order to help give Georgetown students gain meaningful experience working in the China market before graduation, we propose launching Hoyas in Shanghai and Hoyas in Beijing Summer Internship Program. This program would leverage the Georgetown alumnae presence in Shanghai and Beijing to seek out internship opportunities for current Georgetown students, so that the students could learn more about Chinese work culture, the China market, and the relevant industry prior to graduation from Georgetown. This internship program would help make Georgetown students more competitive and informed job applicants after graduation, as well as likely expand Georgetown’s alumnae presence in Asia.

Draft proposal: http://www.georgetownchina.org/volunteer/gu-connect/

- – - – - – - -

5. Change in Club Executive Board

Departure of Caitlin Kelly (President) and Brittany Lockard (Vice-President)

Caitlin and Brittany are both headed back to the States to pursue their next career steps. Due to the mid-term vacancies, Kevin Chen will be taking over the role of President; Robert Guterma will continue supporting the club as Treasurer.
We want to welcome our two newest members of the executive board.

Vice-President: Patrick McNally (CAS ’06) Patrick serves on the American Chamber of Commerce as the Committees Liason. He supports a range of AmCham committees including Environmental, HR, Legal, Media, Real Estate, Sourcing & Procurement and Tax.

Secretary: Adam Reeb (SFS ’04) Adam moved to Shanghai in the spring of 2005. In the four years since moving to China, Adam has worked for companies in both the management consulting as well as industrial manufacturing industries. He is currently working at New Pacific Consulting as a consultant covering industrial sectors. In his free time, Adam enjoys playing tennis, travelling, and trying to master the strategy behind winning in Mahjongg.

We want to thank Caitlin and Brittany for all of their help in setting up the Club, and we wish them luck back in the US.
